In most cases, yes. Most of the crawl spaces we look at have compromised fiberglass insulation in the subfloor. To do proper mold remediation, we need to remove the insulation to access all the floor joists and sub floor.
YES! In our climate, we experience both extremes of hot and cold. There must be a thermal boundary in the crawl space. Insulating the walls and rim joists is a much more cost-effective and energy-efficient way to accomplish this.
By moving the thermal boundary to the perimeter of the crawl space, we can then bring the crawl space into the thermal boundary of the home and condition that area, if applicable. This means your pipes, HVAC equipment, duct work, and anything else in the crawl space that you depend on daily, are operating in a dry and controlled environment.
